Publication in BBU journals
- BBU promotes through its journals the Diamond Open Access model – no publication fees and no access fees. The University’s publishing house – Presa Universitară Clujeană / Cluj University Press – offers the possibility to make the published books available free of charge on its platform – http://www.editura.ubbcluj.ro/www/ro/ebooks/about.php
Agreements with publishers
- Where publication fees are still required, BBU is party to agreements with publishers for reduced or no fees – either through nationwide subscriptions managed by the Association of Universities, Research and Development Institutes and Central University Libraries in Romania (ANELIS PLUS) with mainstream publishers, or through direct agreements with Open Access publishers.

Acknowledging the contribution of Open Science in BBU internal evaluations
In BBU internal competitions & evaluations, the BBU Scientific Board considers all forms of scholarly output, based on qualitative assessments from referees, bibliometrically informed where appropriate in the spirit of the Leiden Manifesto (http://www.leidenmanifesto.org/). Furthermore, the individual academic development plan and its evaluation, for each member of the BBU academic community, allows for the definition and recognition of scholarly contributions across the spectrum (https://senat.ubbcluj.ro/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HS-nr.-77-privind-modificarea-%C8%99i-completarea-Regulamentului-privind-%C3%AEntocmirea-Statelor-de-func%C8%9Bii.pdf).
The Open Science Working Group at BBU
The Open Science Working Group at BBU was established in 2022, initially within the framework of the Project CNFIS-FDI-2022-0179 “Promoting and supporting Open Science practices in research of excellence at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca”. It includes the BBU Scientific Council leadership together with volunteers interested in the topic and this remains, as the name implies, open to all interested parties.
